## For AI agents: buying an eSIM for a traveller

- MCP server: https://www.esimpass.us/mcp (Streamable HTTP, no key, no sign-in). Add it as a remote MCP server or custom connector.
- Flow: search_destinations -> get_plans (live prices; a regional plan lists every country it covers) -> check_device -> create_checkout_link.
- The checkout link opens payment with the plan selected; the traveller enters their email and pays (card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal or crypto). An agent cannot pay or place the order itself.
- Without MCP: every product page is also Markdown at its URL plus ".md" (e.g. https://www.esimpass.us/esim/esim-japan.md), with a checkout link per plan.
- Building an agent that sells eSIMs? create_checkout_link takes a Partner Program code (partner_code); partners earn commission on the sales.

## For travelers from the United States

esimpass.us is the US edition of eSIMpass: prices in US dollars, Apple Pay, Visa, Mastercard, American Express and PayPal at checkout, and the trips Americans take. 11,000+ eSIMpass orders worldwide in 2026.

### What US carriers charge abroad (read on each carrier's own page, October 24, 2026)

- AT&T International Day Pass: $12 a day per line, $6 a day for each extra line, at most 10 days charged per line per bill. It starts on any day you use data, make or answer a call, or send a text abroad (texts you receive are free). Source: https://www.att.com/support/article/wireless/KM1175103/
- Verizon TravelPass: $12 a day (5 GB of high-speed data a day, then 3G speeds), $6 a day in Mexico and Canada; or $100 a month for 20 GB. Source: https://www.verizon.com/plans/international/international-travel/
- Google Fi: data abroad is included on Unlimited Premium (200+ destinations); Flexible pays $10 per GB. Source: https://support.google.com/fi/answer/9462098
- Visible: Global Pass from $5 a day. Source: https://www.visible.com/plans
- T-Mobile: its pages could not be read when these were checked, so no figure is quoted here; check T-Mobile's own site.
- At sea: AT&T and Verizon bill the ship's network at $20 a day. A land eSIM works in port, not at sea.

### When an eSIM saves money, and when it does not

- A 10-day trip on a day pass is $120 on AT&T and $120 on Verizon, per line. An eSIM data plan is one price for the whole trip, paid up front; live prices for 10 days are listed per destination below.
- Mexico and Canada: AT&T Value 2.0 and up, Verizon myPlan Unlimited Welcome and Plus, Google Fi Unlimited Standard and Premium, and Visible+ and Visible+ Pro include them, so a traveler on one of those plans may not need an eSIM there. Verizon's and Visible's include 2 GB of high-speed data a day; an eSIM is for more than that.
- Some plans include data in most other countries too: Google Fi Unlimited Premium (200+ destinations), AT&T Elite 2.0 (20 GB a month abroad) and Verizon Unlimited Ultimate (15 GB a month abroad). Their customers may not need one for a light trip.
- An eSIM is data only, with no phone number: calls go over FaceTime or WhatsApp on the eSIM's data. Wi-Fi calling uses the US line, and AT&T counts a Wi-Fi call to a number outside the US toward its day pass. Someone who needs to call regular numbers abroad is better served by the carrier pass.
- Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands count as domestic on AT&T and Verizon: no eSIM needed.

### Phone checklist for US travelers

- iPhone 14 and every model since are sold in the US with no SIM tray: eSIM-only, so they take an eSIM. Most recent Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel phones work too.
- The phone must be unlocked. On iPhone: Settings > General > About > Carrier Lock should say "No SIM restrictions".
- Install at home on Wi-Fi before the flight; a data plan doesn't start until the eSIM connects abroad. Keep the US line on for texts and bank codes, with data roaming off on it.
- The free eSIMpass app (iPhone and Android) shows the data left and tops up; on iPhone it also checks whether the phone supports eSIM and installs in one tap: https://www.esimpass.us/esim-app

### Questions travelers from the US ask

**Q: What is an international eSIM?**
A: A digital SIM you download instead of a plastic card you swap in. You buy a data plan for the country you’re visiting, scan a QR code, and your phone gets a local data connection there, priced in dollars and paid up front. Your US SIM stays put.

**Q: Do I need an international plan to travel abroad?**
A: Not if you get an eSIM. Your carrier’s international day pass or monthly plan is one way to stay connected; a data eSIM is the other, usually for less. Many US plans already cover Mexico and Canada, so check yours before you buy.

**Q: Do I keep my US phone number?**
A: Yes. The eSIM only handles data, and your US line stays on, so texts and the 2FA codes from your bank still come through. iMessage, FaceTime and WhatsApp work over the eSIM’s data. Heads up: on AT&T and Verizon, making or answering a call or sending a text on your US line abroad can start their daily fee, so call and message over apps instead.

**Q: How do I avoid roaming charges from AT&T, Verizon or T-Mobile?**
A: Before you land, make the eSIM your cellular data line and turn off data roaming on your US line. On iPhone: Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data, pick the eSIM, and turn off Allow Cellular Data Switching. Then turn on Data Roaming for the eSIM only. AT&T’s day pass also starts when you make or answer a call or send a text on your US line abroad (texts you receive are free), so use FaceTime, iMessage or WhatsApp over the eSIM.

**Q: Is an eSIM cheaper than my carrier’s international plan?**
A: For data, usually. AT&T’s International Day Pass and Verizon’s TravelPass are $12 a day, and Verizon’s monthly international plan is $100. Our plans are one price for the whole trip. Their passes do include calls and texts; ours are data-only.

**Q: When should I install it?**
A: At home, on Wi-Fi, before you fly. Data plans don’t start until the eSIM connects abroad, so installing early costs you nothing. Unlimited plans start on the date you pick at checkout.

**Q: Will it work on a cruise?**
A: In port, yes. At sea, your phone can connect to the ship’s own network, which AT&T and Verizon bill at $20 a day. Keep roaming off on your US line on board and use the eSIM when you’re in port.

**Q: Can I pay in US dollars? With Apple Pay?**
A: Yes and yes. Every price on esimpass.us is in dollars, and you pay in dollars with Apple Pay, Visa, Mastercard, American Express or PayPal.

**Q: Can I make phone calls with it?**
A: Not regular calls. You get data, not a phone number. FaceTime and WhatsApp work over the eSIM’s data.

**Q: What if my eSIM doesn’t work?**
A: Contact us and our team will help you get connected. If your eSIM doesn’t arrive, or can’t be installed because of a problem on our end, you get a full refund, and the same goes for a plan bought twice by mistake. Ask within 7 days of purchase. Once an eSIM is installed it can’t be refunded, so check that your phone is unlocked first.

**Q: Why does checkout open on esimpass.com?**
A: esimpass.us is the US edition of eSIMpass. Orders, receipts and accounts live on esimpass.com, still in dollars. Same company, same checkout.

- Every article and guide is available as Markdown too: append `.md` to its URL, e.g. https://www.esimpass.us/about-us.md. Pages name it in an HTTP `Link: <...>; rel="alternate"; type="text/markdown"` header.
- Every product page is available as Markdown: append `.md` to its URL, e.g. https://www.esimpass.us/esim/esim-japan.md (plans on sale with live prices, how it works, the page's FAQ). A product URL requested with `Accept: text/markdown` returns the same.
