Cape Verde eSIM FAQ for US Travelers
Do I get a phone number with the eSIM?
No. Our eSIMs are data-only, so they do not come with a phone number. You use them for internet access — maps, WhatsApp, email, social media, streaming and any other app. Your existing SIM keeps your own phone number active.
Can I make or receive calls and text messages (SMS)?
Not standard calls or SMS — the eSIM provides cellular data only. You can call and message as much as you like through internet apps such as WhatsApp, FaceTime, Telegram, Signal or Messenger, which run on the eSIM's data. Standard calls and SMS keep working on your usual number through your home operator, as long as you keep that SIM active.
How much data do I need in Cape Verde?
It depends on the plan you choose. Across nearly 3,000 of our customers' finished eSIMs, the typical one used half to two-thirds of its plan, and on the smaller plans (1-5 GB) about one in three used all of it. Maps and messaging use little; video, video calls and sharing your connection use the most. If in doubt, take the next size up. If you do run out, you can buy another eSIM at any time - you will need WiFi to install it.
What network speeds will I get in Cape Verde?
Your Cape Verde eSIM uses a local cell network: up to 4G. Speed depends on coverage and your location.
Can I share data with my laptop or tablet?
Yes, but only for Data Plans with a fixed data allowance. Unlimited plans do not support hotspot or tethering.
When should I install my Cape Verde eSIM?
Install your eSIM while you still have WiFi at home - it is safe to do so days in advance for either plan type. Per-GB plans only start when the eSIM first connects to a network in Cape Verde. Unlimited plans run on the travel dates you select at checkout, with the days counting from your chosen start date whether the eSIM is installed or not - so make sure it is on your phone by that date.
Setting up your eSIM? The installation and activation guide walks through it step by step, and the full FAQ covers device compatibility, hotspot, dual SIM and topping up.

Your eSIM for Cape Verde - online across the islands
Cape Verde sits off West Africa and is outside any EU roaming arrangement, so a travel eSIM is the easy way to stay connected on Sal, Boa Vista and the other islands. Install it before you travel and you are online as soon as you land.
Getting online at Sal and Boa Vista
The eSIM connects when you switch off airplane mode at Sal (SID) or Boa Vista (BVC), the main resort gateways. Your hotel transfer and maps are ready before you reach the shuttle.
Coverage in the resorts and beyond
Cape Verde's networks (CVMovel and Unitel T+) cover the resort areas of Santa Maria, Sal Rei and the island towns with 4G. Coverage is focused around the populated and tourist zones, so download offline maps if you are exploring the volcanic interior or quieter islands.
Good to know before you go
Does EU roaming cover Cape Verde?+
No - Cape Verde is outside the EU, so EU roaming does not apply. A dedicated eSIM avoids expensive standard roaming.
Is coverage good in the beach resorts?+
Yes - the resort areas on Sal and Boa Vista are well covered. The volcanic interior and quieter islands can be patchy, so save offline maps.
What US carriers charge in Cape Verde
Using your US plan in Cape Verde means a day pass on most carriers: a week on AT&T's or Verizon's comes to $84.00 for one line, against data plans from $10.57 here. The passes include calls and texts; our eSIMs are data-only and your US number keeps working beside them.
Visible+ includes one Global Pass day a month, Visible+ Pro two.
